Hello! I’m super-excited to be counting down to the first ever 11+ Perfect Punctuation Course for Sutton & Tiffin Stage 2 Creative Writing Exams.
Just four days left to sign up, the course starts on Monday at 4pm. I’ve wanted to run a punctuation course for a couple of years, as it’s always something that needs to be focused on with every student I work with.
We tend to read more than we write, but the truth is we get better by writing more. More importantly, we get better by deliberate practice – focusing on a key skill or two in each piece we write. I’m a real supporter of recognising children need time and spaced learning to make the improvements needed to produce outstanding exam-winning writing. It’s unfair to ask them to just write more, or to just write well.
The aim of the punctuation course is to focus on one master skill, a skill which will influence all other parts of the writing process across all genres. With punctuation flair, you are better equipped to write varied, interesting sentences. You are better equipped to complete the punctuation sprinkle across every piece. You are better placed to score the highest mark possible for the punctuation and sentence element of the marking process.
